You will study topics relating to the media industries. Topics covered include:
• Video editing techniques
• Film production
• Sound design
• Media campaigns
• Responding to a commission
• Documentary production
A Grade 4 in GCSE Media Studies and/or Art is desirable.
The qualification includes four mandatory units that develop your professional understanding of the industry, and introduce film and television production skills. You will learn to write proposals and pitches for a commission, and to develop a film and television treatment outlining your ideas and concepts.
Through optional units in areas such as editing, camera techniques, lighting and scriptwriting, you will develop your technical skills to gain an understanding of roles and responsibilities within the industry. You will learn to work together in teams, and also individually, to produce film and television projects.
Assessment is by coursework.
Please note the awarding body for all BTEC qualifications recently made the decision to extend the current BTEC courses in our offer beyond 2018. This means that for 2018 entry, all Level 3 vocational subjects will continue to be assessed by coursework only, with the exception of Art and Design.
The course will give you the potential to progress on to a wide variety of university degree courses which can lead to a wide variety of careers including film production, television production and journalism. You will develop skills in formal writing, team working and pitching ideas and also develop a wide variety of skills valuable in a wide range of occupations and activities.
