Life at college isn’t just about what goes on within the classroom. At Huddersfield New College we provide our students with plenty of opportunities to develop their maths skills outside of lessons, whilst building up valuable experiences to write about in their CVs and UCAS applications.
This year, students from Huddersfield New College competed in the National Cipher Challenge, and finished 73rd out of just under 1000 entrants!
This seriously tough competition is set annually by Southampton University Mathematics Department and is sponsored by organizations such as GCHQ and IBM.
UK Senior Maths Challenge
Each year, students taking A Level Maths, A Level Statistics and Level 3 Core Maths are invited to take part in the annual UK Senior Maths Challenge. A competition to identify the very best mathematicians across the country, this proves to universities how serious you are about your studies. Thirty two of our students scored so highly they received awards.
Girls Maths Olympiad
Huddersfield New College now participates in the Maths Olympiad for Girls – a very challenging national competition for only the most gifted and talented female mathematicians. Pictured is Ivy Oldroyd former Head Girl at Royds Hall (A Level Maths, A Level Further Maths, A Level Chemistry, BTEC Certificate in Acting) who achieved a Distinction award.
