HNC’s talented sports students have taken on the responsibility of trying to inspire the next generation of elite athletes at local secondary schools.
Talented athletes, Benjamin Birkhead, Harry Newman and Matthew Bottomley, who are part of College’s TASS (Talented Athlete Support) Scheme, have been going into local secondary schools and talking to pupils who are part of their Junior Athlete Elite Programme.
Their talks have promoted the development of youth sport. They have also signposted for the pupils in attendance how they can take the next steps in their sport and also how TASS can help them to do this.
The three also led seminars that focused on the importance of good nutrition for elite athletes and the psychology of sport, highlighting the importance of mental strength in achieving sporting success.
The most recent talk and seminars were held at Honley High School, as part of the College’s work with the school as a Co-operative Learning Trust partner. The feedback from the pupils was glowing, and lots of them expressed a desire to progress to HNC to access the TASS scheme.
If you would like some of our talented athletes to visit your school to talk to your talented athletes, please contact Jo Caton (Primary and Secondary Sport Liaison Officer) at the College to arrange a visit.
