On Thursday 16th March, three of Huddersfield New College’s talented sports students, Tom Pearson, Harry Boothroyd and Victoria Kelly, took part in the British Schools and Colleges Northern Links Golf Competition at Fleetwood Links Golf Course near Blackpool. They represented the college against 84 other student golfers from other colleges in the north.

The weather was really windy on the day, making the golf difficult, but thankfully it didn’t rain!

At the end of the day, the results were:

Men’s

Harry Boothroyd finished 6th out of 75 Northern Britain Links 2017 U21’s

Tom Pearson finished 5th out of 75 Northern Britain Links 2017 U21's.

Women’s

Victoria Kelly finished 5th out of 12 Northern Britain Links 2017 U21’s

There was no podium finish, but all three of our student golfers can hold their heads up high, as they all finished the day just outside the medal places.

Tom summed up his day for us: “It was a tough day. There were some excellent other golfers there. And the conditions were dreadful too. There was a really strong breeze all day, coming off the sea, but then again that’s Links Golf. I thought I played well, with a great drive at the 18th green (340 yards), to finish on a high, despite the awful conditions. Hopefully we will all do better at the Nationals and win some medals for the College!”
