Are you a born performer, eager to develop your dance skills? Or are you looking for a more hands-on course to combine with your other subject choices? Our Applied Dance course is suited to experienced dancers, so if you’re a talented dancer looking to grow your talent and knowledge, this course is for you!

In this hands on and practical course, you will explore a wide range of dance styles, from jazz to street dance to contemporary dance. You’ll work on your individual performance skills as well as undertaking group performances, while developing your choreography skills and experiencing life behind the scenes of a professional performance showcase. Our Applied Dance students have performed in a variety of professional showcases, from the local theatre, The Lawrence Batley, to Disneyland, Paris!

This course is suited to both students interested in pursuing dance as a career and those with a general interest in performance. You’ll study a diverse range of topics on the course, including:

  • Choreography
  • Dance performance
  • Jazz, commercial and contemporary techniques

 

Educate, Enrich, Enlighten

Studying for a qualification in Applied Dance is an enriching experience. On this exciting course you’ll have the opportunity to perform and choreograph a range of routines, which will advance your dance skills and give you an insight into the process of putting together a professional performance.

This creative course will provide you with plenty of opportunities to showcase your skills and put your learning into practice through live performances.

A large amount of your learning will take place in our industry standard Dance Studio. Plus, you’ll also have access to our state-of-the-art theatre, a unique space which features industry standard lighting, video projection and sound, giving you the chance to experience life as a professional performer whilst at College.

You will be encouraged to build on your performance skills through a range of extra-curricular opportunities, from guest workshops to taking part in large scale showcases. In past years, our Dance students have:

  • Performed at the Lawrence Batley Theatre
  • Take part in guest dance workshops
  • Performed at Disneyland, Paris
  • Taken part in residential trips to London
  • Performed in industry standard performance spaces

This course is assessed via examination and coursework. 

Our Applied Dance students have progressed to a range of degrees and Performing Arts Conservatories.

Our Alumni include Maddie Lawton, who is currently in Hairspray, Olivia Midgley, who is performing at Disneyland Paris and Ella Kate, who has a cruise contract with Peel Talent and is a dancer with TF Productions.

BTEC Dance can open doors to various creative careers other than Dance, including Choreography, Artistic Directing, and Teaching and Lecturing. You’ll put your talents into action in a range of live shows, in our state of the art facilities.
