Studying for an applied qualification in Art and Design is an enriching experience. Our highly qualified subject specialists will help you to realise your creativity and help you to realise your artistic talents. Our facilities are world-class and include spacious Art Studios, Photography Studios, a 3D Design Workshop and specialist Graphic Communication Suites. We enjoy the latest in industry standard equipment and editing software, and our workroom features Apple Macs.
As part of undertaking real-life briefs, you’ll spend time outside of the classroom, putting your skills and knowledge to the test and finding your area of specialism. You’ll also enjoy visits to galleries and enter competitions, as well as taking part in our end of year exhibition, showcasing your talents to our guests. You’ll be encouraged to build on your practical skills outside of the classroom in a range of extra-curricular opportunities, from attending workshops to exhibiting your work. In past years our Art and Design students have:
- Taken part in the Sixth Form College Associations annual exhibition
- Visited art galleries - Exhibited work at an end of year exhibition
- Attended guest artist workshops
- Visited European cities for artistic inspiration
Assessment is via internal assignments and externally assessed examinations.
As a full time study programme, this course is usually taken by students who have decided on a career in the creative industries. Many students find they identify their own specialism, and choose to pursue this at degree level. Our students have progressed on to a wide range of courses, including Photography, Fine Art, Textiles, Graphics and Illustration.
