Did you know that around 3 million people work in health and social care accounting for nearly one in ten paid jobs in the UK? Each and every one of us at some point in our lives are dependent upon the services provided by the sector. Our Applied Certificate in Health and Social Care qualification is an ideal way to help you to progress to roles where you will not only make a difference to people as individuals, but to society as a whole.

As this course is equivalent to 3 A Levels, this is a full-time programme of study and therefore suited to students who wish to pursue a career in the Health and Social Care sector. If you wish to combine Health and Social Care with other subjects as part of a blended programme, we recommend looking at our 1 or 2 A Level equivalent courses.

Educate, Enrich, Enlighten

We are incredibly proud of the experiences on offer from the Health and Social Care department, including work placements. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop new skills, including the chance to undertake your First Aid qualification. We also share how much we care via our departmental enrichment which includes fundraising for gifts for teenagers in hospital at Christmas, and a scheme where we support local care home residents. Our trips and visiting speakers are extensive and include GPs, nurses and experiences such as a visit to Bodyworks.

You’ll gain valuable sector experience throughout your time on the course, combining your classroom learning with high quality industry work placements, trips and visits.

Our students have developed their skills, knowledge and built their cultural capital through a wide range of activities. Our students have benefitted from:

  • Visiting guest speakers from a range of industries
  • Trips and visits to key organisations to bring learning to life
  • Working with local organisations such as care homes to build key employability skills
  • Working with local charities to benefit the community

Assessment is via coursework, core examinations and external assessment. Our departmental staff will provide further advice.

This course supports you to pursue a range of career paths. There are so many options when working with people. You could choose to pursue university level studies in areas such as Social Work, Youth Work or Housing Support. As one of the biggest and most diverse employers, the care sector offers you unique and almost endless career possibilities.

Our Health and Social Care qualification can lead to many exciting, rewarding and diverse careers where you will make a real difference to others who may have experienced challenges in their own lives. Potential applicants are advised that the course does feature some topics that may be considered difficult or triggering such as abuse and eating disorders. These form a compulsory element of learning and therefore potential applicants are encouraged to ask us detailed questions about course content should they be concerned that they may find this element of their learning difficult.
