This two year, full time course will lay the foundations for your career in the early years sector. Whether you intend to enter employment, or progress to university, this engaging and unique course will help you develop the theory and skills you need to make a difference to the lives of children and families. Units you will study include:

 

- Child development from conception to seven years

- Children’s health and well-being

- Play and learning

- Observation, assessment and planning

- Understanding children’s additional needs

- Supporting emergent literacy and Mathematics in children

- Reflective practice for professional development

- Completion of professional practice portfolio

A combination of hands on learning in our dedicated Childcare Hub and work placements will see you putting your knowledge into practice and seeing the impact that working in this exciting and dynamic sector has. Over the two years you will experience a broad range of different types of settings, including a primary school, a private day nursery and a pre-school playgroup.

 

Under the direction of our dedicated and knowledgeable team you will explore the theory and skills behind high quality early years education and put this into practice during your placement. This full time course will see you in College for three days per week and on placement for two.

There are an incredibly exciting range of pathways for this course from direct employment into the early years sector as an Early Educator/ Nursery Nurse, to university degrees in Early Years or Primary Teaching. Some students also use this qualification to support applications for degrees in related fields such as Disability Nursing or Counselling.

Good to Know

Around 70% of students taking this course progress to university, with degrees in Primary Education a popular choice for our students. Many students also gain employment on leaving in a wide range of early years settings.
