Dancers who are looking to develop their talents in a variety of styles, from contemporary to commercial dance, will enjoy this physically demanding and exciting course. Whether you’re aiming for a career in Dance or Musical Theatre, this is an essential course to ensure that you have the skills required for your future career. Throughout this course you will choreograph and perform individual and group routines, and will showcase these skills in a number of live performances. You’ll explore a range of dancing genres; key topics include:

- Choreography

- Dance performance

- Leadership

- Jazz, ballet, commercial and contemporary technique


General entry criteria applies and relevant experience will be required.


HNC Dancers have their own dedicated spacious and airy Dance studio, and also benefit from the use of two on-site theatres. Whether you’re a ballet, street or a jazz dance specialist, our outstanding and experienced teaching staff will push you to achieve your very best, and you will be supported by external experts and guest workshops. You will be encouraged to work both independently and as part of a larger team to create live performances. You will have the opportunity to showcase your talents in our very own theatre spaces as well as performing at local theatres such as The Lawrence Batley.

Students can study Dance as part of a mixed programme with two other subjects, or opt to study Dance alongside our BTEC in Performing Arts, turning it into a full time course. This course combination is perfect for those hoping to enter the Dance or Musical Theatre sectors as an employee, apprentice or undergraduate student.

It’s recommended that students hoping to study Dance at HNC have previous experience in the subject, or have studied Dance in or outside of school.
