Are you interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry? Are you looking for a course that combines theory with hands-on learning? Then our BTEC in Sport might be just the course for you. This hands-on programme will equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to pursue a range of roles within sport such as coaching and instruction, as well degree level study in subjects like sports management.
The BTEC Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels so you will study this alongside an A Level or a BTEC Extended Certificate.
Grade 4 in GCSE PE or a pass in a vocational equivalent, if taken. General entry criteria also applies.
The topics you study will prepare you for a varied range of roles and degree level courses, and ensure you are prepared for your future in this vibrant and rewarding sector. The range of topics you will study increases in line with the qualification level of your studies, but includes:

- Sports psychology
- Sports leadership
- Fitness testing
- Gym instruction
- Coaching for performance
On this highly interactive course, you will gain an excellent understanding of a wide range of sports pathways, which will help you to determine exactly where your passions lie.
You’ll gain experience of the sector through high quality work placements, trips and visits. Our students have enjoyed placements at Opta Sports, visits to the English Institute of Sport, Rokt activity centre, and various outdoor challenge centres.
Through your experience of practical activities and academic theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Inside the classroom you’ll enjoy a variety of learning methods, including group work, role play and presentations, which will develop your confidence, teamwork and communication skills – all of which are essential in the world of work.
This course is assessed via presentations, group work and assignments, and externally assessed exams.
This course supports you to pursue a range of career paths within the sporting industry. Many of our students progress on to university degrees that lead to careers in coaching, sports development, teaching and leisure centre management – there are a vast range of opportunities which our industry links will help you explore.
