Our BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification is available as a number of options. Your choice will depend on your future career plans.

Each and every one of us is dependent on the specialist skills of those working in the sector – even if it’s only when we are born! Our BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification is an ideal way to help you progress to roles where you will not only make a difference to people as individuals, but to society as a whole.

The Extended Certificate is a one A Level equivalent, and if you would like Health and Social Care to form more of your study programme, consider the 2 or 3 A level equivalent.

General entry criteria applies. 

The topics you study will prepare you for a varied range of roles and degree level courses, and ensure you are prepared for your future in this vibrant and rewarding sector. The range of topics you will study increases in line with the qualification level of your studies, but includes:

• Human lifespan development

• Working in Health and Social care

• Psychological perspectives

• Supporting individuals with additional needs

• Physiological disorders and their care

• Meeting individual care and support needs

You’ll gain direct experience of the sector by combining your learning in the classroom with direct industry experience. As a student you will develop your skills and knowledge with work experience opportunities. We have links to the NHS, care homes and healthcare organisations, meaning you can gain real life industry experiences.

Through your experience of practical activities and theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Group work, role plays and presentations will offer you the chance to develop as a student and prepare for your next step.

There’s plenty of opportunities outside of your studies. You’ll get lots of opportunities to gain additional qualifications such as First Aid and undertake specialist mental health training.

Assessment is via coursework, core examinations and external assessment. Our departmental staff will provide further advice.

This course supports you to pursue a range of career paths. There are so many options when working with people. You could choose to pursue university degrees in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Health. As one of the biggest and most diverse employers, the care sector offers you unique and almost endless career possibilities.
