This qualification supports a huge range of careers in the sports industry, and progression to degree level study.
Grade 4 in GCSE PE or a pass in a vocational equivalent and one grade 3 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a pass in a vocational Level 2 Science qualification. General entry criteria will also apply.
The topics you study will prepare you for a varied range of roles and degree level courses, and ensure you are prepared for your future in this vibrant and rewarding sector. The range of topics you will study increases in line with the qualification level of your studies, but includes:
- Functional anatomy
- Applied sport and exercise psychology
- Coaching for performance and fitness
- Biomechanics in Sport and Exercise Science
- Specialised fitness training
- Physical activity for individual and group based exercise
Your experience will be enhanced with a range of exciting trips and visits. Current students have developed their skills and knowledge through placements at Opta Sports, visits to the English Institute of Sport and physical activity at Rokt and outdoor challenge centres.
This is a highly interactive course that will provide you with an excellent understanding of a wide range of sports pathways. The course has a strong practical element, which you will complete in our state of the art facilities including our Fitness Suite, Sports Barn, Sports Hall and Fitness Lab.
Through your experience of practical activities and academic theory you will develop your self-confidence and communication skills. Group work, role plays and presentations will offer you the chance to develop as a student and prepare you for your next step.
There’s plenty of opportunities outside of your studies too such as the chance to gain your coaching qualification.
Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction giving you an overall grade at the end of the course.
This course supports you to pursue a range of career paths in the sporting industry. Many of our students progress on to university degrees that lead to careers in coaching, sports development, teaching and leisure centre management – there are a vast range of opportunities which our industry links will help you explore.
