Health and Social Care  - Health Studies is a popular choice here at HNC. Please note that this course is only available as a 3 A Level equivalent, and is specifically designed to support those looking to work in the healthcare field. Typical roles students progressing to this course include Healthcare Assistant, Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Operating Department Practice.

Did you know that around 3 million people work in health and social care in the UK, accounting for nearly one in ten paid jobs in the UK? Each and every one of us at some point in our lives are dependent upon the services provided by the sector. Our BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care – Health Studies qualification is an ideal way to help you to progress to roles where you will not only make a difference to people as individuals, but to society as a whole. 

As this qualification is designed to ensure your progression into the sector, in year two you will undertake more specialist skills and knowledge to prepare for your future in the sector.

General entry criteria.  Please note that if you are looking at this course because you are interested in pursuing a career in Nursing or Midwifery, then it is strongly advised that you have at least a grade 4 in GCSE Biology

We are incredibly proud of the experiences on offer from the Health and Social Care department, including work placements.. We are one of the few providers to offer NHS work experience placements. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop new skills, including the chance to undertake your First Aid qualification. We also share how much we care via our departmental enrichment which includes fundraising for gifts for teenagers in hospital at Christmas, and a scheme where we support local care home residents. Our trips and visiting speakers are extensive and include GPs, nurses and experiences such as visit to Bodyworks.  

This course supports you to pursue a range of career paths. There are so many options when working with people in the healthcare field. You could choose to pursue university level studies in areas such as Midwifery, Nursing, Occupational Therapist or Healthcare to name a few. As one of the biggest and most diverse employers, this sector offers you some unique and almost endless career possibilities.
