Although Covid-19 has temporarily paused international travel from the UK and domestic breaks, this resilient and responsive industry is gearing up for recovery and preparing for a not too distant future when we are all able to enjoy our leisure time.

Indeed, it has been confirmed (February 2021) that Leeds Bradford Airport will receive an £150m investment to expand, which will also  see the airport increasing the number of inbound and outbound flights to destinations across the world.

Of course, lots of people remain keen to take their holidays - Grant Thornton report that proactive rebooking strategies saw travel agencies achieve average rebooking rates of up to 90% - rather than taking a refund due to Covid-19, people have chosen to move their holidays, helping companies remain stable during this turbulent time.  Grant Thornton also report that by the 2023 holiday season - just two years away - the sector is expected to be achieving revenues of 90% - 100% of pre- Covid 19 levels. Jet2 has announced  a range of new routes and destinations in anticipation of the demand for holidays by people who have had to simply pause their much enjoyed summer holidays.

The domestic tourism industry is expected to see a big increase too, with Covid-19 creating a new appetite for the 'staycation'. Visit England estimate that in 2021 the domestic travel industry will see spending levels of £61.7bn.
