Huddersfield New College hosted ‘GET SET’, an athletics competition involving several primary schools from across the Kirklees area. Our HSLA students ran the legacy competition, in which Helme Primary School won funding to run a competitive athletics event.
Children from St Patrick’s, St Joseph’s Brighouse, Helme J & I, Holmfirth J & I, Neilds Primary, Honley Infants, Linthwaite Ardron and Moorlands Primary took part in the scheme, which encourages greater participation in competitive sport. The schools ran inter-school competitions to select children from each year group to compete in gold, silver and bronze heats.
The events incorporated various athletics events, running over six weeks with a different year group taking part each week. The events were a resounding success and next year we are hoping to open this up to high schools as well.
