Huddersfield New College student, Jessie Slater, was just one of 60 junior archers selected to attend the first ever Archery GB Northern Performance Academy back in 2013.

The Academy aims to nurture Team GB Olympic hopefuls, and as a result of Jessie’s hard work and commitment, Archery GB recommended her for a TASS (Talented Athlete Sponsorship Scheme) nomination. Jessie, who has been competing since 2010, has achieved critical acclaim since joining the Academy and is now placed 16th in the UK Junior National Ranking.

Jessie has achieved great success despite being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2006. Even though she has faced challenges throughout her sporting career, she hasn’t let her illness get in the way of her dreams, and Jessie’s determination to succeed at college and in her chosen discipline is inspirational to us all.

That’s why she was awarded with her very own plaque at our recent Huddersfield New College SPOTY awards. Well done, Jessie! We’re looking forward to seeing what the future brings for you.
