Here at HNC we take sport very seriously, and cricket is right up there as one of our favourites.
At the end of June, HNC Boys Cricket Academy took on the esteemed MCC team at Barkisland Cricket Ground in Halifax, and for once, they were able to finish the game… Thank you, sunshine!
Our stand in Captain, Jake Lockwood, headed up the team, which looked to be on the back foot after losing three wickets before the lunch bell had rung. Jake managed to bat a massive 82, with George Hampshire scoring another 42 runs, helping to put HNC back in the game. Danny Cross, another of HNC’s talented cricket players, took five wickets alone, and has now been invited, courtesy of the MCC, to Lords, which is a fantastic recognition of his bowling talent.
Although MCC pipped HNC to the win, our team did incredibly well. Cricket Coach and HNC teacher, Pete Lombard, said “The boys did incredibly well to restrict MCC to 245/9. We didn’t start off too well but Jake managed a fantastic 82 runs, with George adding another 42 to HNC’s score, putting us right back in the game.
“Overall, the team did a great job, and I was just pleased that the fair weather meant that we actually finished a game for the first time in three years!”
