As a college, we know it’s important to actively encourage and engage the younger members of our local community, and in November, the college offered to host a ‘Young Leaders Event’. The event, run by the Pennine Sports Partnership, was held within our Sports Department, with activities taking place in our recently completed Sports Barn.

40 students from across Kirklees took part, with representatives from Royds Hall, Salendine Nook, Colne Valley, the North Huddersfield Trust and Huddersfield Grammar School.

During the event, pupils studied for their Table Tennis and Netball Officiating and Leadership qualifications, which helped teach them how to coach, as well as officiate, and how best to put those skills in to practice.

The students involved had a great time, with one student saying “This is a great course and has given me the confidence to develop my skills alongside playing. It’s really helpful for my GCSE PE and it’s great to learn in these facilities at Huddersfield New College.”
