We don't need to be told that we’ve got talent… but it never hurts to hear it from the professionals!

We've recently found out that we've got not one, but two acts through the first two rounds of auditions for Britain’s Got Talent. There is now a nail biting, three-month wait until they find out if they’ll be going onwards to stage three.

We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for HNC and the Makatones and Zoe Shackleton, our two acts who will find out in February whether they have been successful in gaining a place in the third round of auditions.

HNC and the Makatones, who auditioned in Manchester on December 8th, are a group put together by the college’s Health and Social Care Department. Head of Department, Chris Madej sang ‘you raise me up’ by Josh Groban, with staff members Anna Butterfield and Theresa Mellor, and students Lucy, Megan, Katie, Beth, Corran, Aimee and Grace, signing the lyrics.

The group are hoping to raise awareness of Makaton, a language programme that uses signs and symbols to help and encourage people who are unable to speak, or whose speech is unclear, to communicate. Over 100,000 adults and children world-wide use the language.

Chris Madej, Said “This is an exciting opportunity for the HNC Makatones to raise disability awareness through the power of song and Makaton combined.  It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful group of young people who want to share this message to all”.

Our other Britain’s Got Talent hopeful is Assistant Principal, Zoe Shackleton, who attended the Leeds round of auditions in November. Zoe, who is an accomplished solo singer, performed ‘a spoonful of sugar’ from the classic film Mary Poppins.

Zoe participated in to the auditions as singing has been a life-long passion, and she entered the competition in the hope that she might finally get to follow her dream, and to inspire others to do the same.

Zoe, said “It was a nerve wracking yet exciting experience. It’s never too late to follow your dreams”.

We’d like to wish the Britain’s Got Talent hopefuls the very best of luck!
