April saw the College host a Hustings event to help engage staff and students alike in the upcoming General Election. The event, hosted in the Guidance Centre, was brilliantly attended and followed a successful 'National Voter Registration Day' earlier in the year, where alongside the University of Huddersfield's Student Union, we signed up over 200 students to the electoral register.

The debate was attended by local candidates from across the political spectrum, including Jane East for Labour, Andrew Cooper for the Green Party, Jason McCartney for the Conservatives, Andrew Marchington for the Liberal Democrats and Melanie Roberts for UKIP, and was chaired by Student Union President, Ronan Charnock and Assistant Principal, Glyn Barker.

Students asked questions about topics ranging from mental health to economic policies, which all candidates were given the opportunity to answer.

It was a fantastic and engaging event and we're grateful to the candidates who took time out of their busy campaigns to answer our questions. For those of you who are old enough and registered, don't forget to exercise your democratic right to vote on the 7th May!
