A BTEC qualification can support students progressing to a variety of destinations, whether they are aiming to attend university, secure an apprenticeship or enter the workforce. Our current BTEC Applied Science students are currently preparing to move on to some exciting destinations, having secured places on competitive medical-based courses at a variety of Russell Group Universities, from Animal Science at the University of Nottingham, to Biochemistry at the University of Warwick.

Maira Majeed is in her final year of an Applied Science Extended Diploma, and will be progressing to the University of Leeds to study Cardiac Physiology. She says “I chose to study the BTEC in Applied Science because the course is hands-on, and allowed me to build on practical skills that would be beneficial to the degree I have always planned to study. I chose HNC as it’s the best Sixth Form for BTECs in the area, and I knew it would be able to support my aspirations”.

Mohammed Ghoghawala is also studying the Extended Diploma in Applied Science and will be progressing on to the University of Huddersfield to study Pharmacy. He explains “I felt that the BTEC gave me the chance to excel without the pressure of written exams. I have really enjoyed studying the mix of Biology and Chemistry; it’s prepped me well for my chosen career. The support I received at HNC gave me the confidence to secure a place on a competitive course at my first choice of university”.

Assistant Principal for Vocational Curriculum and Quality, Kam Rogerson, says “BTEC qualifications provide a high-quality alternative option to A Levels, and can support future career plans in just the same way. This year’s BTEC Applied Science students have secured places on competitive courses, often at prestigious universities. BTECs are well-respected by universities, and are recognised as a qualification that prepares students for their future careers”.
