HNC Alumni, Jordon Garrick, re-visited College to share his inspirational story about his journey from HNC to a career as a professional footballer playing for Swansea City AFC.

Having played for a team since he was 15 years old, Jordon joined the Men’s Football Academy when he enrolled at HNC. During his time at College, he was scouted by several well-known football teams, and spent two weeks trialling with Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City.

In 2015 he was signed to Swansea City’s under 18s team. He has now been with Swansea City AFC for four years, and has signed another three year contract with the under 23s team. He plays in the position of striker, but also has a passion for playing the wing. His career highlights so far include playing against talented footballer, Luke Shaw (Manchester United), and playing in the Semi-Final of the Premier League International Cup against Porto.

Jordon commented: “Studying at HNC not only helped me develop as a person, but as a footballer player too. Without the Football Academy at College, I think I would have stopped playing football, after being released from Bradford. Huddersfield New College is definitely the place to be, as the Sports department provides brilliant support for your studies alongside great sporting opportunities.”

Jamie Marsden, Head of Sport and Academies says: “We were delighted that Jordon could re-visit College to share his story and inspire current students from across the College, regardless of their chosen study programme. He has worked incredibly hard to achieve his ambitions, and we look forward to seeing him continue to succeed. Our Academies programme allows students to be challenged academically and in their chosen sport, and Jordon is a fantastic example of how the programme supports talented athletes.”
