Huddersfield New College has announced that students have selected their new chosen Charity of the Year for 2018 – 19 and that soon the first fundraising activity will take place with a group of 20 staff running the 10k Leeds Abbey Dash.
Each year students nominate a range of potential charities to be the Charity of the Year and then vote to select a single charity so that collectively the College community can make a difference. Throughout the year a range of activities then take place to raise funds. This year students have chosen Young Minds, who campaign for a future where all young minds receive the best possible mental health support.
As part of the College’s Staff Wellbeing programme a number of staff have joined a running club, and have signed up to run the Leeds 10K Abbey Dash on 4th November. Now that students have selected the College’s Charity of the Year, the group are raising funds to support it.
Chris Madej, Head of Health and Social Care has organised the group and says: “Staff have been training hard over the past few months, and we have had runners of all fitness levels and abilities join us! We’ve been waiting for students to vote on their Chosen Charity of the Year to announce the cause we will be collectively fundraising for, and we are delighted to be raising money for Young Minds.”
