Huddersfield New College's Performing Arts students have immersed themselves in the world of Physical Theatre, taking part in a specialist two day workshop with Kenny Wing Tao Ho from the popular Physical Theatre Company, Gecko.
Students from the BTEC Acting and A Level Theatre and Drama courses were invited to experience the expert tuition of Kenny, and were challenged with exploring the concepts of ‘breath’, ‘movement’, ‘gesture’ and ‘interpretation’, and learning the art of story-telling through body language.
Kenny, an alumna of the London Contemporary Dance School, pushed the students to work outside of their comfort zones and worked on concepts such as desire and fear, and how these emotions can be demonstrated for the benefit of the audience.
Kelsie Ford, Teacher of Performing Arts, said “We were lucky to have a member of the Gecko Physical Theatre team come to HNC to share their expertise and stretch and challenge our talented performing artists. Physical Theatre is an essential skill for a well-rounded actor, and our students have enthusiastically responded to this fantastic opportunity to learn and develop their skills in this area. The energy levels throughout this workshop were incredible. Workshops like these help our students to grow in confidence and work around any inhibitions they may have, preparing them well for a life on stage.”
