There is a huge amount of talent at Huddersfield New College and one student has recently enjoyed the opportunity to challenge their talents by designing a special logo for the College’s Talented Athletes scheme.
Student Marcus Dumaresq-Lucas studies A Level Graphic Communication and the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Art and Design. He has recently undertaken work experience in the College’s Marketing Department and was given a creative brief to create a logo for the College’s Talented Athletes programme.
Marcus went away and developed a range of ideas to present to the Marketing team and Head of the Talented Athletes Programme, Pete Lombard. The final logo incorporates the Sports department's Varsity style branding, and is based around a ram theme which reflects the core elements of Huddersfield’s coat of arms, industry history and being a 'White Rose' Yorkshire town!
Hayley Doyle, Director of Marketing and School Liaison says: “Marcus wanted to gain industry experience, with the opportunity to be given a professional creative brief. He has displayed an incredible level of talent, presenting a range of well-thought out concepts and developing these in response to our feedback until we had a logo that represents both our Talented Athletes and our Huddersfield roots. This logo will be used as our Talented Athletes icon across a range of print and digital media. With this level of talent and professionalism already, I am sure Marcus will go on to enjoy an incredible career in his chosen field of Graphic Design!”
Marcus Dumaresq-Lucas comments: “I really enjoyed developing a logo that represented the department, HNC as an inclusive College and our local area. I carried out a range of research, and was inspired by the ram on the Huddersfield coat of arms. The ram and motto in this represents the hard work of people in a town famed for textiles and this formed the basis of one of my concepts. I had to look at how the design could be adapted in response to feedback, which will be great preparation for my future as a Graphic Designer.”
Peter Lombard, Head of the Talented Athletes scheme concludes: “We love our logo! We are incredibly proud of our Huddersfield based talent, and our logo represents the hard work of our talented students in their chosen sports, our hometown, and fits with the branding of our sports department. We are delighted with our new logo, it's absolutely perfect.”
