Huddersfield New College is proud to reveal that one of our new Talented Athlete programme students has become the first Yorkshire player to win the English Girls’ County Champion of Champions tournament.

Lily has recently enrolled at HNC and is studying BTEC Business and BTEC Sport and Exercise Science, and as a talented Golfer, is being supported to combine her talent for her chosen sport with her studies.

She carded rounds of 72 and 78 to claim a six-shot victory on four over par 150. That was more than enough to see her finish six shots ahead.

Lily comments: “It was a massive surprise to win, I thought I might finish in the top 10 so I was really surprised to win. I was so shocked coming off the 18th. I looked over to my dad and he had a massive grin on his face!”

Pete Lombard, Head of the Talented Athletes programme comments: “Our Talented Athletes programme ensures students can excel in both their studies and their sport. We work with students on an individual basis to enable them to do this, for example through bespoke timetabling arrangements. We’d like to congratulate Lily on her amazing achievement. Lily is a fantastic example of the diversity of the sports our students excel in, and we look forward to seeing her continued progression during her time at HNC.”
