Huddersfield New College hosted a special celebration event for a group of students who have passed their IDTA Grade 1 Ballet exams.

As part of their studies all Musical Theatre students explore a range of dance styles, and are given the opportunity to then take additional qualifications that reflect their skills and knowledge. A group of students were inspired to formalise their skills and sit their Grade 1 IDTA Ballet examination. All scored highly, achieving a minimum of Merit with Ben Malone and Ella Wood securing a Distinction.

The group were taught by external dance expert Lizzie Gunson, and are hoping to progress to Grade 2 over the next year.

Cat John, Teacher of Dance comments: “This is a fantastic example of how our Performing Arts students are given the opportunity to extend their skills and knowledge and how their experience prepares them for the very best chance of success in the future. Many of them had not studied ballet previously, and they really benefited from the expertise of our visiting teacher Lizzie. This additional qualification will really help to enhance the range of roles they can pursue in the future and I would like to congratulate them on their success.”
