Huddersfield New College has revealed that Year 12 student Ada Solomon has just completed a prestigious Insight Week placement with PwC. Using the latest in technology, Ada was still able to take part in the week virtually after the usually office based experience was cancelled due to the pandemic.
PwC’s Insight Week allow students to learn more about how they can progress to a career in business, accounting or technology and experience a week in PwC’s offices. As a world leader in professional services, students can gain a range of valuable skills from a placement, and if they are interested in progressing with PwC, there may also be a chance to be fast tracked through the selection process for a College Leaver or degree based career with the organisation.
Ada successfully completed a rigorous interview for her place prior to lockdown, and was then invited to complete this virtually after the pandemic prevented office based placements from going ahead. During the course of the week has followed a timetable of training and experiences that have helped her learn more about business and accountancy and what working in a professional environment is like. She has also spoken to some of PwC’s apprentices about how they successfully joined PwC and sampled some of the training on offer. Following this Ada has received confirmation this week that if she is interested in any future positions at PwC she will be eligible to be fast tracked through the application process.
Ada says: “It was a tough process to secure a place, and I completed a number of video interviews which included filming myself responding to some business based scenarios. The week, although I took part virtually in the end, has been fantastic. I’ve learnt so much about how business and accountancy works in a huge multi-national firm, and developed some skills that will help me with my future ambition to be a consultant working in real estate. It has also definitely helped me understand there are so many ways I can achieve my future ambitions after College, as well as giving me an experience that has really shown what it will be like working in a professional environment.”
Paula Husband, Head of Business comments: “Each year we support students to apply for these highly prestigious opportunities, with some who then find this leads them progressing to paid employment with PwC at the end of their HNC journey! The process is highly competitive, and we’d like to congratulate Ada on securing a place on the Insight Week experience and for realising an opportunity in lockdown. We're delighted she has been awarded the option to fast track through the application process if she chooses to apply for future vacancies and Ada has clearly shone during the experience.  We know that these experiences help our Business students to stand out from the crowd both when applying for roles at PwC and beyond, and we look forward to seeing Ada when we return to Campus and hearing more about her virtual experience and supporting her should she choose to apply to PwC in the future .”
