Huddersfield New College has revealed that it has been certified as a national leader in ensuring students gain the digital skills for the future. Students at HNC can opt to undertake Microsoft Office Specialist qualifications in key applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, demonstrating their expertise and proficiency in using these popular packages. Now the College has been recognised as a top Certiport Authorised Test Centre by Prodigy Learning, and named as the Prodigy Learning Centre of Excellence for 2019-20.

These qualifications can cost up to £200, but are free to HNC students regardless of their programme of study. The College encourages all students to undertake the exams leading to these qualifications as part of their wider College experience to formally demonstrate their digital skills and enhance their university and job applications. There is absolutely no requirement for a student to study IT to benefit from the opportunity, and all students can choose to undertake these qualifications.

Sadly the pandemic meant the national awards ceremony had to be cancelled and rescheduled for next year, but HNC has received a plaque and a virtual recognition until CertMatters. Live takes place in June 2021, when the award will formally be presented.

Joe Norton, Director of Independent Learning says: “Here at HNC we work hard to ensure our students have the digital skills they need to succeed, and we encourage students from across all study programmes to benefit from these qualifications. The vast majority of careers now require a high level of technical ability, and the Microsoft Office Specialist qualifications are rigorous exams that genuinely demonstrate a high level of technical ability. Lockdown and our experiences mean the pace of change towards a digital world is likely to be even faster than before, and this award recognises our genuine commitment to advancing the technological skills of our students whilst formalising these skills with a qualification that helps them to stand out from the crowd.”

Andrew Flood, CEO of Prodigy Learning says: “Unfortunately due to the difficulties resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic we had to cancel our CertMatters.Live in person event this year. Our Centre of Excellence Award is presented each year to our top Certiport Authorised Test Centres…this achievement is recognition for the commitment, hard work and time given to advancing student success and their employability prospects.”
