Huddersfield New College has revealed that applications are now open for students who are interested in becoming a Student Well-being Champion.

The College has opened applications to coincide with World Mental Health Day, where millions of people are talking about and celebrating the importance of mental health around the globe. HNC has a core focus on student well-being all year round, and is linking to the national Every Mind Matters campaign with a  Every Mind Matters @ HNC programme. This brings together a wide range of support and advice for students from emotional support to encouraging students to access free physical activities that have a positive impact on their well-being.

As part of this students can apply to make a difference to themselves and to others by applying to become a Student Well-being Champion. This is a varied and exciting role where students will have the chance to grow their own skills whilst helping others by sharing ideas that will promote positive well-being, as well as offering a range of peer to peer support following professional training.  The Student Well-being team is also responsible for being part of a group ensuring that there is a rolling programme of themed well-being weeks. The role is a real opportunity to shape the well-being support at HNC, and make a difference to the entire student body.

Emma Fisher, one of the College’s staff Mental Health Champions comments: “Every Mind Matters at Huddersfield New College, every day of the year.  As a team we bring together a wide range of support and ideas that ensure students are happy and healthy both mentally and physically. Applying to become a Student Well-being Champion is a real chance to make a difference to others. It is also an opportunity to ensure that as a College we are providing a programme of help, advice and support that helps everyone to protect their well-being, have fun, and know where to go if they do need additional advice or support. In return you’ll grow some fantastic skills, make a difference to others and have an experience that helps your CV to stand out. World Mental Health Day helps us all to pause and think about our mental health, so if you think you could help us to help others every day of the year, please do apply!”
