Huddersfield New College has announced that CACHE Level 3 Childcare and Education student Mary Baxter has secured a place at the world class Norland College – and will now train to become a Norland Nanny.

Norland College is a world famous higher education college in Bath, and students who undertake their BA in Early Years Development and Learning and the Norland Diploma become one of the famed Norland Nannies upon graduation.

Founded in 1892 by educational pioneer Emily Ward, Norland was the first educational establishment to offer any kind of childcare training. World-famous for providing the very best early years training and education, Norland remains cutting-edge. Students pursue the most up-to-date academic childcare training and the highest practice standards in line with the latest research. This makes them incredibly in-demand, and Norland Nannies are employed around the world – including for Royalty!

As a qualified Norland Nanny, Mary will be guaranteed a job and the Norland Agency has a 100% employability rate. Throughout its history, jobs have always outnumbered Norland Nannies. Last year, despite the COVID crisis, there were on average five permanent jobs for every Norland Nanny seeking one through the Norland Agency, reflecting just how in-demand Norland Nannies are. Norland Nannies are amongst the highest paid in the world, and once she is fully qualified Mary will be supported by the Norland Agency to match with a family that best suits her skills and experience.

Mary underwent a tough interview process to be offered a place and will start at Norland College in September. She says: “It has been a life-long dream to secure a place at Norland College and become a Norland Nanny. I went to my first Open Day aged 12 and I was the youngest person ever to visit. It doesn’t quite feel real yet! The interview was pretty tough, but my experiences at College really helped. My teachers Alison and Julie have been wonderful, and have expected the very best of me, always pushing me to do better. My placement also strengthened my interview answers and the skills and knowledge I have gained have laid the foundations for my next steps. I am so excited to join Norland College and eventually become a  Norland Nanny.”

Jill Ferguson, Course Leader comments: “Norland Nannies are sometimes referred to as ‘Royal approved’ nannies as they are the nanny of choice for families across the globe, including our own Royal family! This is because the training and experiences they receive at Norland College makes them genuinely world-class, and the very best at what they do.  This is reflected in the salaries they command and how they are also effectively able to choose the families they will work with. Securing a place is an incredible achievement, and we know this is something Mary has dreamed about since childhood. It is a fantastic example of the incredible destinations our course can support, and we can’t wait to receive a picture of Mary in the Norland uniform!”

Norland College will be join our virtual Early Years conference on Monday 8th February. Click here to find out more.
