Huddersfield New College has announced it is hosting a new opportunity for students to Get Creative during lockdown. Today, entries have opened for the ‘Reflections on Lockdown’ competition, with students and staff encouraged to unleash their inner artist and create something that visually reflects their thoughts, feelings and experience of Lockdown 3.
Entries can be in any format – such as a photograph, collage, painting, a textiles piece, a 3D model or even a colouring- and the brief is that the entry should capture the essence of how the member of staff or student is thinking, feeling or experiencing Lockdown 3.
This competition is open to all regardless of artistic experience or study programme, and the top three entries will receive a £20 voucher and be displayed in College (with the entrant’s permission).
All entries will also be displayed in a special online gallery.
Entries should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org with a small paragraph explaining the inspiration behind it. If the entry is not a photograph, then a photograph should be taken to submit the entry.
Principal Angela Williams comments: “Expressing how we are feeling is essential to our mental health and well being. We are now in Lockdown 3, and it is important to express how we are feeling about this, and sometimes this is not always easy in words. Clearly, we are all living more restricted lives, and we are at home much more than usual, and whilst this might be frustrating, it also presents new opportunities. So, whilst I have really missed being able to visit my family who live on the Wirral, I have never been outdoors or walked so much, and I have genuinely discovered just how beautiful the area in which I live, and which I take for granted, is! I have taken lots of photos whilst out walking and in the future these will not only be a reminder of these strange times, but also a reminder to appreciate what I have, as opposed to lament what I do not have. To be more grateful, in essence."
"This competition is genuinely open to everyone. I am no artist but I am going to enter a montage of photos from my walks! I look forward to seeing your entries.”
