Huddersfield New College has revealed that applications are now open to Year 12 students interested in applying for one of two prestigious Head Student positions. Our Head Students not only represent their peers and help HNC to improve, the skills and experiences they enjoy as part of this help them to stand out from the crowd.
Our current Head Students Phoebe and Noah and Deputy Head Students Haroon and Cerys (all pictured above) are now busy preparing for their next step after College, so HNC is looking for a new and dynamic team to continue the work of our Head Student team and make HNC an even better place to study and grow! Two core positions are available: Head Student – Pastoral & College Life and Head Student – Curriculum, Teaching & Learning & Assessment. Last year the decision was taken to also appoint Deputy Head Students due to the quality, enthusiasm and drive of applicants.
Each of the Head Student (and any Deputies) take responsibility for representing student voice on the relevant elements of College life, and proactively lead a variety of initiatives and activities such as leading a Green College initiative, meeting with Senior Leadership to provide feedback, helping to interview senior level applicants, and speaking at Open Events. You can see an example of our current Head Student team in action in their Student Takeover video, produced for our recent virtual Open Events here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSBWWz217wE&t=2s
Students receive a range of specialist training and support to help them to succeed, and are also supported and mentored by the outgoing Head Student team. Today Year 12 students all received a special invitation to apply directly to their College email address, and an application pack. Further information can also be found on Moodle.
Kam Rogerson, Assistant Principal comments: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to our outgoing team who despite the pandemic have excelled in these leadership roles, representing their fellow students and helping to improve the College experience for all. Being a Head Student is a real opportunity to stand out from the crowd through the chance to develop genuine leadership skills within in a professional level environment and take responsibility for driving change and improvements. We are really excited to read the applications from our future Head Students and look forward to their interviews.”
