Huddersfield New College student, Hassan, has volunteered his time for a local community project in Calderdale, the Halifax Community Fridge, helping to feed families in need during this challenging time.
The Halifax Community Fridge opened in August 2020 and is an initiative of volunteers coordinated by Madni Mosque. The Community Fridge is now operating 7 days a week to feed those in the local community who need support, free of charge. Hassan is one of the many volunteers who make this community project possible, with the support of local residents and businesses, who donate food to the project.
Erika Montgomery, Director of Equality and Diversity, comments “Hassan is a credit to Huddersfield New College and his community, volunteering his time and helping to ensure that those in need are able to access vital food supplies in what has been a challenging time financially for some. Our students have volunteered their time, when it has been safe to do so, throughout the pandemic and have made a genuine difference to their communities. We are so proud of our students and the positive changes they are helping to action”.
Students studying at the College are invited to volunteer their time in number of ways. For more information, please visit the enrichment page on Moodle.
