Over the past few years the Head Student team have developed student life at HNC, and are integral to Student Voice. As significant positions of responsibility, students apply for these prestigious positions and are interviewed by a panel. Upon appointment the team become responsible for sharing student feedback about College life and lessons, acting as representatives for the College and helping Senior Leaders to develop the experience for the whole College community. As representatives, they are involved in a hugely diverse range of activities from developing the College’s Green Pledge and interviewing senior members of staff to speaking at Open Events and meeting with Senior Leaders to share wider student feedback.
All students receive specialist support and training to help them excel and the team are busy preparing for their very first engagement. The term of office will run from spring until graduation to allow for them to take part in events and undertake a handover process with the next generation of Head Students.
The team are now preparing for their first upcoming engagement – a Student Takeover with a live Q&A on HNC @ Home, the College’s online College for students joining this September.
Lee Goddard, Vice Principal comments: “Our Head Student programme has gone from strength to strength and this year we had our strongest ever pool of applicants. It was genuinely an incredibly tough decision to make this year as our candidates were outstanding, and all shared an incredible passion for making a difference to their fellow students. The Head Student programme is of course a significant responsibility but also one that will help students to grow a diverse range of skills and shine in their future careers. Our outgoing team have done a fantastic job in the challenging circumstance of a pandemic, and our new team already have an incredible amount of ideas and feedback. We are very much looking forward to working with the entire team and seeing these ideas help improve the student experience even further.”
