Huddersfield New College has revealed that this week students are being welcomed back to HNC with a special Freshers’ Fair which will take place on Thursday 9th September. At this event, students will be able to explore the wide range of enrichment opportunities on offer to them, including the brand new Lunchtime Bites programme. In addition, a range of external exhibitors will be offering a range of special offers and information about useful services.
HNC students can enjoy a range of unique opportunities outside of the classroom, each of which help students to invest in their future self. Each offers students a different opportunity to get active, qualified, creative, volunteering, inspired or career ready. There are many enriching experiences on offer ranging from the DofE award, the chance to become a Student Ambassador and take part in Strava challenges, to a book club and work experience. This year students will also be able to opt to take part in the brand new Lunchtime Bites programme and this will be launched at Freshers' Fair.
Lunchtime Bites is a collection of enrichments which take place during the lunch break and these are hosted onsite by staff. This exciting new range includes opportunities such as the chance to learn British Sign Language, take part in a charity fundraiser or join the 'Our World Matters' debate club. In addition, students can join the crafting club and use their creations to gift as random acts of kindness, or visit the Mindful Arts and Crafts studio to take time out of the busy College day or even stretch their creative writing talents by writing for the student magazine. Each day students can also ‘ENJOY’ different sports based activities such as table tennis or badminton. The timetable above illustrates the Lunchtime Bites programme.
All students are invited to explore their enrichment offer by joining the Freshers’ Fair which is running 10am – 3pm. The Student Enrichment portal on Moodle lists the full range of opportunities on offer, along with days and times.
Kam Rogerson, Assistant Principal comments: “Enrichment is a core part of the outstanding experience at HNC. Each activity helps students to invest in their future self in a variety of different ways, and of course enhance their wider College experience. We encourage all of our students to benefit from our enrichment offer, and enjoy opportunities that will help them to stand out from the crowd in the future. We are excited to launch our Lunchtime Bites programme, which is a great way to not only have fun over the lunch break but also grow their skills outside of the classroom during the College day. All of our Lunchtime Bites are available to enjoy on Campus, and are all delivered by our outstanding staff team. We look forward to sharing more with our new and returning students at our Freshers’ Fair.”
