Huddersfield New College is delighted to reveal that it is one of 70 schools and colleges across the UK which have been accepted on to the prestigious Microsoft Incubator Path of the Showcase School Program. This is the next step in becoming a Microsoft Showcase School and being recognised as a world leader in the use of digital technology.
This follows HNC’s highly successful use of MS Teams as a learning tool during the pandemic, and as an eventual member of the Showcase School Program, HNC will be a part of a group of schools and Colleges working to be at the forefront of digital learning. Being part of this program ensures that technology is used to help students achieve more, and make sure that young people and staff are ready for the digital future. As part of this, HNC will become part of a community leading the way and using technology to tackle challenges, celebrate success and try new solutions during the current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.
The news that HNC has been accepted on to the Microsoft Incubator Path follows HNC celebrating how an incredible eleven members of staff have been formally verified as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE). This demonstrates that they have the skills, knowledge and expertise to help students achieve more through digital learning. As MIEEs they will champion the use of digital technologies, and support others to benefit from the possibilities on offer.
As a member of the Incubator Path, HNC will also now be able to learn from world leaders in the use of digital technology, and use the pioneering approaches others have developed to improve learning outcomes for students and ensure that they have the skills to compete in a digital world.
Dr Joe Norton, Director of Digital and Independent Learning says: “The use of Microsoft Teams has of course increased massively due to remote learning during the pandemic. However, its use goes far beyond enabling learning for students who are at home due to self-isolation or lockdown. The pandemic has helped to highlight the huge benefits of tools such as MS Teams, and has no doubt helped to speed up our progress toward a digital world. Throughout the course of the pandemic, we have used digital learning technology to support our young people. As a Microsoft Incubator College we will harness the many benefits available from digital learning to ensure our students achieve the very best they can. It is a real privilege to be part of the program and we will be at the forefront of the opportunities on offer from this. Eventually as a Showcase School we will be a recognised world leader in the use of digital learning technology, and even have early access to research and solutions, helping our young people and staff to be even better prepared for the digital world we live in today.”
