Huddersfield New College has today launched a brand new festive Get Active Strava challenge. Over the next few weeks we will be walking, cycling, running and wheeling our way to a total of 2213 miles – the distance from Huddersfield to Lapland.

As part of our varied enrichment offer we provide a range of opportunities to help students to Get Active. Throughout the pandemic students and staff have been able to get involved in a range of Strava challenges including our Huddersfield to Huddersfield (Jamaica) challenge and Halifax to Halifax (Australia) competition.  These have provided a great way for us to come together during the pandemic, and work towards a shared goal.

Following feedback from students and staff, our Get Active enrichment strand will continue to feature Strava challenges. With Christmas just around the corner, today we have launched our special festive themed one. As always, there will be a range of prizes to be won for students and staff who participate.

Kam Rogerson, Assistant Principal comments: “Our Strava challenges have been incredibly popular, and we have literally completed tens of thousands of miles already as a community through our challenges. Being active is vital to physical and mental well-being, particularly during these shorter and darker days where there can be less motivation to exercise. With Christmas just around the corner, Lapland was a natural choice for our next ‘destination’. Whilst this is not as many miles as some of our previous challenges, it will take place over a much shorter time period. Every step counts, and we hope lots of our students and staff will once again help us to mark off a new destination on our round the world Strava map!”

Want to take part in the challenge? Email or to be added to the Strava group. This will automatically log any activity completed.
