Huddersfield New College has revealed that our Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE) have reached a national leaderboard which reflects how they are championing the use of MS Teams, and supporting everyone at HNC to make best use of the possibilities this digital learning technology offers.

As a member of the Microsoft Incubator Path of the Showcase School Program, HNC is currently taking the next step in becoming a Microsoft Showcase School. Institutions with this status are recognised as world leaders in the use of digital technology. As an eventual member of the Showcase School Program, HNC will be part of community leading the way in using technology to support outstanding teaching and learning.

Currently 11 members of staff are verified as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE) which reflects how they have been trained to help students achieve more through digital learning. As part of this, the team work to ensure staff receive training that supports them to make the best use of learning technology. As part of this the MIEEs take part in regular training with Microsoft, to enhance their knowledge and enable them to support this within College. Microsoft describes MIEEs as “global educator visionaries who are using technology to pave the way for their peers for better learning and student outcomes.”

The MS Education team has recognised how HNC is leading the way in the global professional learning community as our College has topped the leaderboard for the amount of training completed by staff. As number one on the board, Dr Joe Norton, Director of Independent Learning, was asked to speak to a range of fellow MIE Expert Trainers from a range of institutions about how this is being achieved. Fellow HNC trainer Tom Smith also featured on the chart!

Dr Joe Norton, Director of Digital and Independent Learning comments: “Being part of the Microsoft Educator community and working towards the Showcase School Programme ensures as a College we can be part of a group constantly pushing the boundaries in the use of digital learning technology in the classroom. Our group of MIE work to share our learning around this with colleagues, and continuously push and support our staff and students to use digital learning to support outstanding outcomes. Whilst of course the use of Microsoft Teams has increased hugely during the pandemic, the use of it here at HNC goes far beyond enabling students and staff to continue learning if they are self-isolating. Being a Microsoft Incubator College allows us to harness the huge potential of digital learning and allows us to have early access to research and solutions. Regardless of the pandemic, our young people live in a digital world and the experiences they enjoy at HNC will help them to be better prepared for the world they will move on to.”
