Huddersfield New College has revealed the winners of a recent competition which invited students to unleash their creative side and pitch their ideas for a rebranding of the College’s Dining Area.
Students from across the College presented their ideas to a panel compromising of Principal Angela Williams, Deputy Principal Marcus Smith-Connor, Vice Principal Julie Thomas and Marketing Director Hayley Doyle.
Each presented their ideas in a professional style pitch, and answered questions on this pitch from the panel. Aoife Schofield presented the award winning pitch with her ‘The Junction’ idea. Aoife is pictured above delivering her pitch.
The winning pitch will be used as part of the rebrand of the Dining Area and Aoife will see her idea developed into reality as it would be in a real-life graphic design project.
However, the panel were so impressed by the standard of all pitches that a range of other awards were made, as listed below.
In addition, judges were so impressed by the ideas presented for the wider College social environment that the students who participated in this creative challenge will be invited to be part of a working group looking at the redevelopment of a number of other key student social spaces.

Angela Williams OBE comments: “As a panel, we were blown away by the creativity and the innovation in the pitches presented. As someone who has sat through a lot of pitches from professional design agencies, I can say with confidence that our students made first class pitches, and it was a genuine pleasure to judge these. “
“Choosing an overall winner was very difficult. However, the panel was unanimous in the choice of Aoife’s pitch 'The Junction'. This pitch reflected how the College’s Dining Area is a literal junction for movement around College, but also how the College itself is a literal junction in our students lives. I would like to congratulate our overall winner, and all the winners of our individual awards. I for one would not be surprised to see any of the winners who challenged themselves to pitch an idea to us working at a top design agency in the very near future!”
