Year 12 students from across HNC’s Sport and Health faculty have recently returned from an action packed three-week work experience programme in Lisbon as part of the Turing Scheme, the UK government’s global programme for working and studying abroad.
Year 12 students from across the faculty were invited to apply for a place on these prestigious and fully funded life-changing trips, which are designed to give students a flavour of the roles they can expect to pursue in their chosen sectors, as well as an opportunity to enjoy living and working within another culture.
During the three week trip, students took part in a range of language lessons to prepare them for their work experience placements, which saw our students working with a range Portuguese primary and high school pupils to deliver a variety of classroom and holiday club activities. During the trip, students stayed in two different locations in Lisbon, allowing them to explore a wide range of sights from across the wider Lisbon area and enjoying local delicacies, including the world-famous ‘pastel de nata’ pastries. During the three week trip, the group had the opportunity to explore the municipality of Sintra, the Jerónimos Monastery in Belém and the Castelo de São Jorge in Lisbon - as well as a variety of local museums and beaches.

This trip was a unique opportunity to develop skills that will support our students far beyond their time at HNC and has also inspired them to consider a wider range of next steps after College. I am incredibly proud of our students for being such brilliant ambassadors of the College and for upholding our values. I know that this life-changing opportunity will stay with them forever!”
