by Vicky Close, Course Leader for AS/A2 Textiles
The students are currently working on their examination unit where they have answered a question set by AQA on Textile techniques. They have been working on the Unit since the 1st February and are now completing the project with a 15-hour exam where they make and construct their final piece garments in exam conditions.
Last week the students designed their patterns which I then delivered to Neil – the technician at Mirfield Print Workshop – to expose on to the screens. On the day the students worked in pairs to line up their images in repeat onto the fabric, they then mixed their colours and began the process of printing a length of fabric. They were very surprised how much hard work was involved both physically and mentally.
They are all very grateful for the opportunity they have had to be able to see their designs on fabric and then be able to turn them in to a fashion garment. I was extremely proud of the students as I always am; they created beautiful designs and very creative prints. They worked well together and were a credit to the College.
Watch out for the designs on the catwalk in their end of year show at the LBT on the 21st June!
