And we’re not done yet, as the new £600,000 Sports Barn is opening this September and will increase our capacity to deliver high-quality sports lessons.

Batsman Alec, who is England’s most capped cricketer, was at the college as a guest of Yorkshire Bank and wasted no time getting involved in giving the team a bit of advice as they used the cricket lanes. He even took a few of the players to one side to hand out some expert advice.

After witnessing the strength of the academy team the group was then treated to a 10 minute presentation of highlights from Alec’s cricket career, before he spoke to them about his love of the game and what they need to do in order to reach the very top level.

Alec then signed a HNC Cricket Academy shirt before being given a tour of the Sports block to round off his visit.

Pete Lombard, who coaches the men’s cricket team, said: “The students were really excited to meet one of the country’s greatest cricket players and had a fantastic time during the coaching session.

“Having the chance to talk to, and be coached, by someone who has played at the very top level for so long is something which doesn’t happen everyday, so we’re very grateful to Alec for taking the time to come and see us.”
