A second year student at Huddersfield New College has had the amazing opportunity to visit Cape Town, South Africa, for ten days with Yorkshire Cricket Club.

Sam Baxter, who is currently studying Maths, Chemistry and Physics at the College, has been playing Cricket since the age of 6 and is currently training with the Club’s Pro Coach initiative under the care of coaches Chris Brice and Liam Plunkett. Sam is currently focusing on his quick bowl skills, and has been a member of Pro Coach since October 2016.

When another Pro Coach cricketer dropped out from the Cape Town trip, Chris Brice approached Sam to fill the place. Sam will join a number of other young sportspeople and their coaches in the South African city, where they will play four matches and take part in several training sessions. There will also, of course, be the mandatory sight-seeing and cultural visits!

“It’s really exciting to have this opportunity to play my sport abroad,” said Sam. “With regards to my cricket career, I just want to have fun with it and see where it goes.”
