The National Centre for Diversity held its prestigious Annual Grand Awards event last Thursday at the Queens Hotel in Leeds.

It was a glittering night of celebration, recognising the hard work of people who work in the UK’s best organisations in relation to promoting Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement.

Individual awards marked the contribution of some of the most inspiring and passionate individuals who work day in and day out in these organisations to ensure that there is equality of opportunity for all.

Erika Montgomery, Equality and Diversity Manager at the College, was named as the UK Lead of the Year for promoting EDI.

On receiving her award, Erika commented “I am incredibly proud and honoured to have been presented with the award for  ‘UK Lead: Equality, Diversity & Inclusion’. It is wonderful recognition of Huddersfield New College’s commitment towards the values of respect and inclusion. The promotion of equality and celebration of diversity both in our sixth form and in the wider community are central to our ethos.”

During the evening, the National Centre for Diversity also announced its UK Top 100 Organisations for EDI for 2017.

Huddersfield New College came in at Number 1, jumping a massive 54 places from where they featured in the Top 100 Index for 2016.

Huddersfield New College’s Principal, Angela Williams, was then named as the NCFD College Principal of the Year. This award was decided by an independent panel of judges.

On the success of the College at the Annual Grand Awards event, Angela commented “ I have worked in comprehensive environments throughout my 32 year career in education. I am passionate about providing a learning environment where all can flourish and all can achieve highly. These awards recognise that we are the best organisation nationally in terms of ensuring that Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are at the very heart of what we do. It is our Mission. And I am incredibly proud that this is our Mission. I will treasure these awards.”
