On 5th April, students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at Huddersfield New College visited Teesside University, to try out their Physiology laboratory, and to discuss with staff the range of Sports courses offered by the university, and where these might lead to in terms of careers within the sports industry.
In the Physiology lab, students investigated the physiological testing equipment and participated in several scientific tests, including a reactionary test.
Students were informed that every successful individual athlete or sports team has a scientific support team behind them. The visit helped the students to understand more the importance of the scientific support team and how scientific research is being practically applied to enhance performance in Sport.
Sport student, James Burns, commented “The trip to Teesside University has given me a better understanding as to why our course is a Sport and Exercise Science course. Science is really important to Sport. I enjoyed going into the lab and taking part in the science based tests in there”
Another student, Matthew Bottomley, commented “The visit has given me an insight into what is available to me at university after this course. The Sports facilities at Teesside are really impressive”
