Young Writers, who promote and encourage creative writing amongst children and teenagers, recently hosted a ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ mini saga competition. In this competition, students aged 12-18 were challenged to write a short story set in or based on a new imaginary world in just 100 words. The best entries would be selected for publication in regional anthologies.
Six Huddersfield New College students entered the competition and all six have had their short stories selected for publication, making them officially published authors!
The West Yorkshire edition of ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ was released last week , much to the delight of students, Grace Perkins, Ivy Oldroyd, Laura Bisland, Andrew Philp (pictured above), Emily Dundon and Chloe Lumb.
“I entered the competition in the hope of developing my writing skills even more. I am passionate about writing. It is also a great way to help me stand out on a CV” commented Laura. “To be published means a lot to me. It gives me a real sense of accomplishment, and it is also a great way to be able to show off the talent at Huddersfield New College.”
Congratulations to all six students on their publishing success.
We look forward to reading your books in the future!
Young Writers run writing competitions throughout the year, so if you want to get involved, keep an eye out in the Library and on Moodle for information about their competitions.
