Students from Health & Social Care have been working with staff and students from Salendine Nook High School this year on a new initiative, a mentoring scheme with Year 10 pupils.
Following safeguarding training, run by the school Deputy Head-teacher, Mr Foster, and the Head of Year 10, Miss Sanasay, Health and Social Care students were paired with a mentee from Year 10. They then met their mentee every week for 6 weeks, in college, to discuss their targets for Year 10 and to work out how they could best meet these targets.
At the end of the 6 weeks, each mentee also met with the college’s school liaison manager, Ben Burgin, to discuss their career goals, with the aim to motivate them towards achieving their targets, to support them moving on from school to college, to continue working towards their career goal.
The Head of Year 10, Miss Sanasay, is delighted with how the new mentoring scheme has gone and reports that all mentees have made real progress.
Our Health & Social Care staff, Theresa Mellor and Katie Griffiths, who implemented the scheme are also really happy with the outcomes and plan to continue the scheme next year.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved!
