On Thursday 22nd of June, students studying English Literature, English Language and English Literature and Language were provided with the opportunity to visit the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, to see one of their set texts.

The text was ‘Persuasion’ by Jane Austen, and students there got to see a very modern production of this classic literary text, which included both silly dancing and a foam party! It was a fun production which our students thoroughly enjoyed, especially the unusual modern twists.

English staff who accompanied the students included; Sarah Newton, Ellie Chitham, Debbie Brennan, and Lorraine Globe. Many thanks to Shelley Martin on coming out of retirement to come along too.

Sarah Newton, one of the College’s A Level English teachers, commented “The students behaved perfectly throughout the visit and were a credit to themselves and to the College. We hope to run lots more theatre visits in the future. They help bring classic texts to life for students.”
