Fashion students wowed a large audience of family and friends with their end of year Fashion Show, held at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on 14th June.

Huddersfield New College’s Vice Principal, Sonia Ross, got the show off to a prompt start at 8pm with a warm welcome to guests. This was followed by the AS Textile students modelling two garments that they had designed and made: one on the theme of Surfaces and the other an embroidered Floral.

Next came the turn of the A level Textile students, who also modelled two garments. The first was the product of their personal investigation project, and reflected their research theme. The second was their show stopping piece, created in 15 hours under examination conditions, and based on a range of starting points, as directed by the awarding body AQA; embroidered illustration, 3D forms, feathers and plumes and Shibori.

The Course Leader for Textile Design, and short-listed finalist for the TES Teacher of the Year Award, Vicky Close, closed the show with a tribute to the work of 3 former Textile students who have gone on to great success after HNC, graduating with First Class Honours degrees this year from Bournemouth University (Costume Design) and Huddersfield and Sheffield Universities (Fashion with Textiles).

It was no wonder, therefore, that at the end of the show there were a lot of very impressed faces in the audience.

Vicky finished the evening with this personal message for her students, “I just want to wish all of my students the very best wishes in their chosen careers, and to say a big thank you to them for giving me their all. I will miss you, but I know we will keep in touch. I am proud to have worked with you and to be able to say that I have helped you on your journey through life. Good luck!”
